Gun Control: We CAN Do It

As many of you know, a huge controversy is the second amendment. It has been since it was created. I suppose even in the olden days when they were still writing the constitution, it made sense to give the right to bear arms to everyone in the U.S. But, the times have changed. The second amendment doesn’t have the same meaning as it used to, which is actually part of the reason it is so controversial! Some of the support behind it still applies, or can be applied, but some of it can‘t. Back when they wrote it, we didn’t have an incredible militia that we could rely on, but now we do. Many people cannot be trusted with guns, but if a country attacked us, we would all of a sudden just ignore that fact? Even if a country is doing a horrid thing to us, it doesn’t mean that non- trustworthy people that live here should have a gun. After all, this is not World War One, there are atomic bombs that we must consider. Many, many countries have access to them, so why would they attack us with guns when they could so easily just blow us all up? And I know already what some of you are thinking, “We could still defend ourselves, because they may not blow our whole country up,” but would it make sense to attack a country with guns when they’re waving a nuclear weapon in front of your face?

Also, London, England’s crime rates weren’t doing so good, just like ours aren’t. But, they don’t have a right to bear arms, they have gun control, which brought their crime rates down drastically. I know that there are still crimes being committed in England, and there always will be. But, we would be saving human lives if we had gun control.

I have been told that changing the constitution is unrealistic. Maybe it is tough, but if congress saw how upsetting gun control is to some of us, and that we are taking action, I don’t think it would be impossible. So, please, take action, and DON’T use your guns. Maybe congress could see that there is no need for a right to bear arms if we all just dropped our guns. Regardless, you’re doing our whole country a favor by putting your gun down. They are unsafe. They kill.
